Why Are Some Young Black Men Supporting Trump?

According to the BBC, “Mr Trump won just 8% of the African American vote in the 2016 presidential election and critics accuse him of stoking racial tensions.”

“Many Black Americans who are first-timers or relatively new to voting told us in focus group settings that they don’t see the point of choosing between the lesser of two evils. Unlike their parents and grandparents who lived through racial segregation, the civil rights movement and a radical, racial transformation of American society, young Black people who have come of age in the past 30 years told us in focus groups that they have little to nothing that they can cite as examples of progress that can be attributed directly to politics – or voting,” writes Sam Fulwood III in The Conversation.
