Caputo, the top spokesman of the Department of Health and Human Services, will take a leave of absence “to focus on his health and the well-being of his family,” the department announced on Wednesday (9/16/20). Senior Trump Aide Goes On Deranged Rant, Says Scientists Are Working for “Deep State”

Michael Caputo is the top communications official fielding the coronavirus crisis. He claimed that scientists will “allow people to die so that [they] can replace the president.”

After a week that saw numerous revelations detailing Trump’s failure to rein in COVID-19, a senior aide in his administration went on social media to deliver a tirade against scientists and Democrats. According to the New York Times, on Sunday, Michael Caputo told his Facebook following during a Facebook Live event that scientists, “deep in the bowels of the CDC have given up science and become political animals.” 

During the Facebook Live event, Caputo also made allegations that Antifa had “squads being trained all over this country” with the goal being to target the current administration’s supporters. He told his listeners to stock up on ammunition come November when Trump would win but Biden would refuse to concede defeat, leading to an uprising from the left. “If you carry guns, buy ammunition, ladies and gentlemen, because it’s going to be hard to get,” he said.

CNN’s KFile reported earlier this year that he made racist and derogatory comments about Chinese people, accused Democrats of wanting the coronavirus to kill millions of people, and accused the media of intentionally creating panic around the pandemic to hurt Trump in a series of now-deleted tweets.
