Homemade Peanut Butter Bacon Dog Treats | Sally’s Baking Addiction
- 1 cup smooth peanut butter (not chunky)
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 Tablespoon baking powder
- 1/3 cup quick-cooking oats
- 2 strips of bacon, cooked very crisp and crumbled
Mix everything except the oats and bacon in a large mixing bowl. The mixture will be stiff. Add the oats and bacon and mix some more. then turn out on a flour-dusted pastry cloth, parchment paper, or whatever you use to roll out dough. Roll about 1/2 inch thick or even thicker if you have a dog like mine that really likes to chew. Cut into shapes using cookie cutters or you can buy a biscuit-shaped cutter for a fancy treat. Bake at 250F until firm, perhaps 45 minutes or so. Or you can put them in your air fryer if it has a dehydrate setting. Remember, you want them to be hard like commercially prepared treats. Cool and store in an airtight container for a week. The harder they are, the longer they last. Since they don’t have preservatives, they do better if refrigerated. Watch out for mold if you keep them on the counter.
