Yesterday (10/1/20), Gov. Greg Abbott (R) ordered counties to limit the number of drop-off locations they have for mail-in ballots to…one. Starting today, Texans who are voting by mail (which is pretty limited) can drop their ballots at locations determined by their county’s early voting clerk. Harris County – which includes Houston, has over 2 million registered voters, and is bigger than the state of Rhode Island – had planned to have 12 drop-off locations. Now, it’s got to scale that back to one. Counties will also be required to allow poll watchers to monitor their drop-off spots. Read HERE.

A Seattle police officer has been placed on administrative leave Thursday following an incident captured on a livestream, which shows an officer walking a bicycle over the head of a person lying in the street amid protests in the city. The video shows a line of police line advancing toward protesters, after officers apparently said the gathering in the street was an unlawful assembly. While protesters mostly retreated, a person who appeared to be wearing head protection can be seen lying in the street. As officers on bikes moved forward, one officer who was walking beside his bike can be seen rolling the bike over the head or neck of the person lying in the street. Read HERE.

Police have killed 1,010 Americans in the past year. Despite the unpredictable events that lead to fatal shootings, police nationwide have shot and killed almost the same number of people each year — nearly 1,000 — since The Washington Post began tracking these numbers in 2015.

In 1983, 90% of the American media landscape (including magazines, books, music, news feeds, newspapers, movies, radio, and television) was dominated by 50 conglomerates. Just 36 years later in 2019, a mere five conglomerates dominated 90% of the media that Americans consume (Time Warner, Disney, Murdoch’s News Corporation, Bertelsmann of Germany, and Viacom).
