Sam’s Club Secrets

Do you shop at Sam’s Club? If so, do you know these hints for making the most of your membership?

• If you are lucky, you can buy a membership on Groupon for less than the current annual fee. There are 2 kinds of memberships: $45 Select Club and $100 Select Plus.
• Right now there is a special offer to join for $45 and get a $45 gift card HERE.
• Learn the price codes: “C” indicates that the item is canceled or won’t be restocked, so prices will likely drop soon; “N” means “never out,” which indicates items that are always in stock and least likely to go on sale, and “A” means the item is active with several of its kind in stock, so prices typically won’t change.
• Discounted prices usually show up on Wednesday.
• They sell discounted gift cards, which may be helpful for holiday gifts this year, since we are (well, I am) still trying to get away from close gatherings, you can mail them, and people usually appreciate a free meal or a chance to shop for exactly what they want.

Costco Secrets

Do you shop at Costco? If so, do you know these hints for making the most of your membership?

• If you are lucky, you can buy a membership on Groupon for less than the current annual fee. Right now my local Groupon has a number of offers, including a $20 shop card with an executive membership. Costco has 4 memberships: Gold Star ($60) and Gold Star Executive ($120), and Business ($60) and Business Executive ($120).
• There are special promotions for student and military memberships.
• Learn the price codes: prices that end in 97¢ have been marked down from the regular priced items, which end in 99¢; odd pricing, such as 79¢, 49¢, or 89¢ indicate specially priced items that Costco got a deal from the manufacturer; an asterisk* on the upper right side of the sign means the item won’t be reordered; 88¢ or 00 are usually display items, returned items, or end-of-inventory items with a manger’s discount.
• The Food Court is open again with the $1.50 hot dog plus a refillable drink.
• The rotisserie chicken is still $4.99 (yum, alhtough my local Costco is remodeling and the chicken place is closed temporarily).
• Costco does price matching for in-store prices. The store will refund you the difference in price for any product purchased within 30 days.
