A Therapy App Is an Inexpensive, Discreet Way to Find a Therapist

It can be scary to ask for help, but when you’re struggling, it’s so important to reach out to someone. You’re not alone, and there are people who care about you. Therapy is an excellent way to improve your mental health, but unfortunately, it’s not available to many. First of all, therapy can be very expensive. According to Thervo, a website that connects people to therapists in their area, a therapy session can cost anywhere from $60 to $120 on average. With health insurance, that price can go down from $20 to $50 per session, but that’s another issue—the most recent statistics from 2019 report that nearly 30 million Americans do not have health insurance. And with about 10 million adults unemployed, in part due to the pandemic, that number is likely higher.

  • BetterHelp has a network of licensed psychologists, marriage therapists, clinical social workers, and professional counselors. The cost ranges from $40 to $70 per week, and you can cancel at any time. BetterHelp notes that its services are usually not covered by insurance.
  • ReGain is specifically meant for couples therapy. The cost ranges from $40 to $70 per week, with no insurance coverage available, and you can cancel your membership whenever you’d like.
  • Talkspace has thousands of licensed therapists with different credentials, including professional counselors, mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, social workers, and doctors, on its site. Some insurance plans cover Talkspace, and you can check out the full list of its health plan partners here.
